The Northern Territory Court of Appeal has increased the jail sentence of Katherine man Michael Martyn.
Mr Martyn is serving one year and ten months of a suspended sentence after being found guilty in May of the manslaughter of Sergeant Brett Meredith, who died after being punched by Mr Martyn during a fight at Katherine's Club 23 on New Year's Eve.
The Director of Public Prosecutions appealed the sentence.
Court today ruled that Martyn should serve a jail term of five years, suspended after two years and six months.
In July Michael Martyn was sentenced to a total of three years and eight months.
Back then the wife of Brett Meredith, Amee, said the sentence was "not fair" and had left her family "shattered".
