Man found dead in Roper Creek

15 Feb, 2012 09:10 AM
Policeofficers are investigating the suspicious death of a 25-year-old man who has died in Maranboy on Friday night.

Detective Sergeant Andy Bedwell of the Northern Investigation Section said police were called to Roper Creek on the Central Arnhem Road at around 11.30 pm on Friday night.

“It was reported ... that a man had drowned in the creek opposite the bar,” Detective Sergeant Bedwell said.

“Clinic staff were in attendance upon police arrival and had declared the man deceased. “

In a separate incident, a 33-year-old man received facial injuries during an altercation at the same location and had to be taken to Barunga Clinic.

“Police have spoken to a number of witnesses from the scene and will continue to

investigate the circumstances surrounding the man’s death, including whether there are links between the incident

involving the 33-year-old and the drowning,” Detective Sergeant Bedwell said.
