Atfer seven years Velda Mazoudier has given up her role as the Director of the Flinders NT Rural School medical program to take on a new challenge in Queensland together with her husband.
But it was not an easy decision to make for the bubbly and humble 54-year-old.
“I don’t want to leave,” she said. “Katherine is the best community I’ve ever lived in - Katherine is like a family.”
Mrs Mazoudier said although a lot of excitement was involved in her move to a sheep station in Queensland, she would miss the “loyal, accommodating and friendly people in Katherine”.
“I had the time of my live, being a part of the Katherine community, the Flinders University and the Katherine Rotary,” she said.
French-born Pascale Detwiller, 52, has taken over the role as Director of the Flinders Rural School medical student program.
The doctor in pharmacy, who moved to Katherine earlier this year, said she was looking
forward to the new challenge.
“It’s a marvellous opportunity to take over the directorship of the Flinders Rural School medical program,” she said.
Ms Detwiller has spent several years working in Indigenous communities in New Caledonia, before moving to Katherine.
