Katherine man Zak Grieve, who was last month charged with the murder of Ray Niceforo, has been refused bail in the Darwin Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
The 19-year-old has been charged with one count of murder and one count of entering a dwelling intent on committing an offence.
Court heard there was a “strong case” against Mr Grieve.
Refusing bail the prosecutor said Mr Grieve had made admissions to his acquaintances and had asked for them to provide him with a fake alibi.
The prosecutor said Mr Grieve was seen with the two other accused men, Darren Halfpenny and Christopher Malyschko, on the night of Ray Niceforo’s disappearance.
Mr Grieve was also seen leaving in a white car similar to one that was seen at the scene of the murder.
Mr Grieve's defence lawyer told the court police were using one of Grieve's co-accused as the primary source of evidence and that information “should be treated with extreme caution”.
Magistrate Greg Cavenagh said bail was refused because of a strong motivation for Mr Grieve not to return to court due to the nature of the crime.
