FRIDAY night was the scene of two very close games of rugby union at the Sport and Rec Club.
The Brahmans played the Pirates in game one with the Lions and BarBars following in the second match.
The crowds were not disappointed after being treated to two quality matches.
In game one the Brahmans came out of the blocks firing and put early points on the board by way of two penalty goals.
The Pirates seemed to rouse and posted a try displaying strong ball running in the midfield.
With the scores locked at 6 – 5 the Brahmans took advantage of a wayward lineout and posted a try to take them into the break leading 11- 5.
The Pirates came out stronger in the second half and posted points throughout the half.
The Brahmans had good possession but were unable to post any more points.
The Pirates were eventual winners 24 – 11 in a good contest.
Game two was a matchup between the Barbarians and the Tindal Lions.
The Lions struck first blood and posted a converted try to rattle the BarBars eary.
The BarBars hit back and the game was locked at 5 – 10 for the majority.
The BarBars dominated in possession and field positions but the Lions held strong and made them work for every inch.
The BarBars eventually scored on the buzzer finishing the game 15 – 7 with the lions letting a valuable bonus point slip through their fingers.
After nearly two full rounds the competition is beginning to level out with all teams battling hard this week.
This Friday night sees the Pirates versus BarBars at 6.30pm and the Brahmans versus Lions playing at 8.00pm.
