Busy weekend for Katherine bowlers

NT Qualifying for the Australian Open

Katherine Bowls Club is gearing up for a busy weekend when they host the NT Qualifying Event for the 2012 Australian Open.

The event has received nominations from across the Territory with a full complement of sections being contested.

The Bowls Club is to be congratulated for bringing this prestigious event to Katherine.

It is just another example of the ‘can do’ attitude that is synonymous of this small but passionate Club.

Junior Singles Club Championships

Rebecca has been crowned Sub Junior Singles Champion for the year. She took out the Grand Final in fine style defeating Harrison.

Both players are to be commended on their sportsmanship throughout the match. Harrison although down never up. He kept competing until the last bowl was bowled. Rebecca saved her best game for the Grand Final. She concentrated and kept focus throughout.

All junior bowlers are to be congratulated on a fantastic effort during the season. Junior Bowls will recommence early in 2012.

If you have any enquiries, please contact Sandy during business hours on 8972 1337.

A special thanks from all the juniors goes to Bronwyn Chandler for putting the fun back into junior bowls. Thank you for your encouragement and guidance.

The Junior Singles Grand Final between John and Kaitlin has been postponed to late November.

Red Rooster Jackpot Pairs

Sandra Dee and Warwick did their usual trick on Wednesday night.

They started poorly whilst Bron and Pat settled into a winning groove. Sandra Dee and Warwick were 6 shots down after the 9th end. They clawed back and scores were tied on the 11th end.

Bron and Pat bowled well but Sandra Dee and Warwick went on to win the next 2 ends and the game.

Snake teamed up with club stalwart Dave to take on the tenacious Mal and new comer Carol. She continued her good form last week and was well supported by team mate Mal. Dave and Snake try as they might had no answer to the deluge of winning shots delivered by the dynamic duo.

Carol and Mal won the game and the Red Rooster chickens.

As the year draws to an end so does the number of social bowls nights.

Wednesday Night Red Rooster Jackpot Pairs is the only social bowls competition available.

Tuesday night and Saturday afternoon’s have ceased for this year.

Over 60’s Australian Sides Championships

Warwick and Col have returned to Katherine after participating in the Over 60’s Australian Sides Championships.

As much as I wanted to talk about the bowling, Warwick and Col’s conversations were based around the facilities.

Apparently, the entrance of the Warilla Bowls Club is like something you would find in Dubai.

There are seven bars including a bottle shop, four restaurants and a coffee shop, bowls shop and tourist agency. Warwick states they are not short of poker machines either.

The boys did mention something about a spa bath but let’s not go there in this publication.

See you round the rinks.

Dates for the Diary

Saturday, December 3: Katherine Bowls Club fun fours event to be followed by the Club’s presentation dinner. Sunday, December 4: Katherine Bowl’s Club AGM.
