Golfers take on wet greens

16 Nov, 2011 08:42 AM
THE Katherine Golf Club conducted a Single Stableford event last Sunday.

The popular winner of the contest was Kookie Wendt with 42 points.

Runner up on a countback with 41 points was Tom Horsewood.

A small field of 27 contested the event after early morning rain caused some players to drop out.

Our report for the previous weekend’s activities suffered some technological glitch and did not make last week’s paper.

On November 11 the Club conducted its second Wet Season monthly medal.

The winner of the medals were in A grade Ken Orwell with 72 nett from Heath Craft with 75 nett.

The B grade medal was won by Peter Farnden with 71 nett from Shane McCamn who carded a 72 nett.

In C grade John Ashley came in with a good score of 64 nett from Garath Williams on a countback with 65 nett.

The handicapper has had his way with both of these players.

The Golf Club committee met on Monday night and after discussions with the sponsor we sadly decided to cancel next weekend’s Wet Season Open.

The decision was made on the lack of interest which would have resulted in a very small field.

Wednesday night Gallop Thru Time competition was won by Stoppy. Rabbit came in second.

Our golf pro Nathan Campfield conducted the final clinics for 2011 last weekend.

Members of the Junior and Women’s clinics are advised that they can still hire out the driving range to continue their practice - see me for details.

The NT golf Pennants competition is well underway.

Katherine will be hosting the Pennants on December 10 and 11; the course will be closed for the two days.

A date has now been set for the 2011 trophy presentation day on December 4.

The club will invite all of their sponsors to play in a four person 18 hole Ambrose team event.

This will be followed by a luncheon and presentation.

The programmed monthly medal will now take place on December 19.

This coming Sunday we will conduct a simple Stableford event.

Shot gun start 7.30am for 8am.

Happy Golfing.
