Senior ranger John Burke said staff had reported a crocodile sighting at the mine late last week, but only a small freshwater croc went into the trap that rangers placed in the dam on Tuesday.
However, on Friday a 3m male saltwater crocodile, which is believed to have moved into the dam through the Mary River catchment, was caught in the trap.
Ranger John Burke said the croc was the ninth saltie to be caught in waterways in the Katherine region this year.
On Tuesday last week rangers pulled a 3m crocodile from a trap behind Manbulloo.
In the past weeks rangers have undertaken spotlight searched for crocs and surveyed the river.
A population density study on freshwater crocodiles in the Katherine River will be undertaken this month.
