Stylish socialites and lucky punters are expected turn out in their thousands for the Katherine Cup event, with the first race to begin just after 1.30pm, with gates opening at 12 noon.
Racegoers will line up trackside for the Carlton Mid Katherine Cup to be run at 5pm.
Katherine Turf Club president Duane Barclay said this year’s event will combine fashionable trends with the quality of racing.
“We also have a full bar and catering facilities, as well as course bookmakers, a TAB and free entertainment for the kids,” he said.
The six-race card is dubbed the biggest event on the region’s social calendar, offering a day of class at the races.
“The atmosphere is always filled with excited chatter and colourful outfits,” Mr Barclay said.
“The event grows in leaps and bounds every year.”
It’s a day to dress to impress and arrive abundant in elegance and finesse.
Fashionistas from far and wide will flock to town to show off in their colourful creations.
“The event brings plenty of wealth to the Katherine community with ladies shopping locally for the perfect outfit,” Mr Barclay said.
The Treasury Wines Fashions on the Field event will be the focal point for local fashionistas with the Northern Territory Cancer Council’s Best Hat competition coming a close second.
“We will host the fashion events in between races, with the Kids and Men’s Fashion kicking things off after race one,” Mr Barclay said.
“Following race two will be the Fillies and Best Hat event, saving the Mares division for last.”
The Turf Club committee are expecting over 2,500 people to gallop through the gates for a bit of fun in the sun.
“We always expect a good crowd because it is classified the premier event of the season,” Mr Barclay said.
Admissions to the 2014 Katherine races is $15 for adults, $7 concession and kids free.
