School Principal Marg Chamberlain said the inaugural Kintore croc race was a “huge success” and a “great family event”.
“The community got right behind it and we sold all 1000 rubber croccies,” she said.
The race winner was croc #407, owned by NSW tourist Brett McIntyre, who won $1,000 in cash and took out the golden croc trophy.
Croc #457, owned by Sue Delebeor from Hayes Creek came last, and the lucky 500th croc across the finish line at the Low Level was Katherine woman June Edwards’, who donated her $500 price money back to the school.
Ms Chamberlain said the school raised more than $21,000 through the event and thanks to a generous $15,000 donation from the Katherine Club.
“The money will go directly towards our new wheel-chair bus, which is an integral part of the school.”
Ms Chamberlain said the school needs to raise a total of $130,000 to replace the 15-year-old bus.
