Hosted by the Rotary Club of Katherine, the event consists of a range of variety-style performances from local emergency services workers and community identities, and will raise funds for the Katherine Cancer Working Group.

Ball co-ordinators Christine Sutherland and Donna Bryant said the decision to donate money to the group had been a simple one.

“It was identified as a big community need and something we could pledge to totally,” Mrs Sutherland said.

“[Cancer] is something that impacts us all.”

Up to 500 guests are expected to frock up for the gala outdoor event, which will incorporate an Australiana theme.

Despite the laid-back choice of theme, Mrs Bryant said there would be no room for thongs.

“It’s an opportunity for the ladies to go all out and dress up, so we don’t want to see singlets,” she laughed.

While the pair is keeping mum on the identities of the special acts who will take to the stage on the night, Mrs Sutherland guaranteed there would be laughs and gasps.

“There will be some pretty well-known surprise acts,” she said.

“We’ve got around 15 so far, so it’s going to be a big show and a lot of fun.”

Tickets for the event cost $80 and are tipped to become some of the most prized items in Katherine when they go on sale from 1pm on August 17 at the venue.

If any tickets remain, they will be available from the Top Saddlery and Bush Boutique from the following Monday.
