AFTER the Labor government’s announcement of their candidate for the August election, Cerise King, the CLP has now also officialy announced its candidate.
Sitting member Willem Westra van Holthe has been re-endorsed to contest for the seat of Katherine in the upcoming election.
“I’m delighted to be re-endorsed,” Mr Westra van Holthe said.“I’ve worked hard for the people of my electorate in the past four years and will continue to give them the best I can as local Member.
“Katherine is a great place to live, yet it also has loads of unrecognised potential.”
Mr Westra van Holthe said Labor had “ignored Katherine for the past 11 years”.
“I will make sure Katherine gets the opportunity to grow economically as it becomes a more important hub for transport and the cattle industry.
“On the back of that, we will provide capacity for the town to grow and support retail and housing growth. Mindful of the impact on our tourism industry and our general quality of life, one of my highest priorities will be to deal with public drunkenness and law and order issues in Katherine.”
Mr Westra van Holthe won the pre-selection process over two other potential candidates.
