Katherine woman Teresa Cummings has lodged an appeal against the party’s pre-selection because of “irregularities” during the selection process.
New CLP president Tim Cross said the appeal would be dealt with within the party.
“That will be a matter for the appeals committee,” he said. “All the evidence will be weighed up and the decision will be made by the appeals committee.”
Findings are expected to be handed down by next week.
“It’s not a challenge against Willem, it’s a challenge against the selection process,” he said.
Ms Cummings said she was unable to comment on the “irregularities” in the pre-selection process that had led to her appeal.
Mr Westra van Holthe said he was also unable to comment, but he was “confident the
party will deal with it appropriately”.
The turmoil surrounding the seat of Katherine has been ongoing after the town’s CLP member Fay Miller left the party, following a near-fatal car crash in 2008.
Ms Cummings was pre-selected for the seat, but was later dumped by her party over bullying claims only weeks prior to the 2008 election.
After a department investigation cleared her of the claims Ms Cummings faced off with
Mr Westra van Holthe in this year’s pre-selection process, but lost.
