THE annual ANZAC day game was played this year between the Tindal Magpies and the Katherine Camels before a healthy crowd of AFL supporters at the Nitmiluk
Oval Katherine Showgrounds.
The local Big Rivers Football league run the event as the opening of the 2012 AFL season and donate money from the gate to the Katherine RSL branch.
The game started with the ANZAC ceremony and seemed to inspire the Tindal Magpies as they started strongly with Chris Larter dangerous at full forward and Peter McLean going well in the middle.
The Camels have been well prepared this year by Coach Andy Bilskie and responded with Roy Assan kicking goals and the midfield led by Tom Gleeson and Matt Hamdorf getting their hands on the ball.
The Camels responded to the Magpies' challenge and kicked away with five goals in each of the quarters to
record a terrific first up win.
Katherine Camels won 18.17.125 to Tindal 4.3.27
Tom Gleeson won the BOG ANZAC day medal for a great game on the ball including two goals.
Best Camels: T Gleeson R Assan M Sammut J Miller Tindal
