JUNIOR baseball continued on Saturday morning with the first game between the Angels and the Dodgers.
Both sides struggled for numbers but it was the Dodgers that were able to put a stronger team onto the park.
The Angels were able to give a couple of their new players a good run and they will be a lot better for the game.
The Dodgers came to play and started well, while the Angles where a bit out of sorts with some key players missing from their lineup.
The Dodgers lead by TJ Solloway batted very well and quickly took control of the game.
The Angels tried hard to keep up with the Dodgers but with Ryder and Ben Craven pitched well for the Dodgers and TJ Solloway leading the batting they proved far too strong for a gallant Angels outfit.
Running out comfortable winners 16 runs to the Angels 4.
Jens Ambjerg Pedersen did a good job for the Angels on the mound and Nils Ambjerg Pedersen and Davorini Horvat batted well, while new players Max, Denzel and Reece showed promise.
Best for Dodgers: TJ Solloway, Cole Usher, Ryder Mountain
Best for Angels: Jen Ambjerg Pedersen, Max and Nils Ambjerg Pedersen.
The second game was between the Braves and the Cubs.
The Cubs at the moment are the form side of the competition and are proving to be the side to beat, playing very well as a team, while the Braves did well to stay in the game and push the cubs all the way.
The Cubs batting has improved and Jed Dawson is doing a great job for them on the mound while new players Dillion Parsons, Scout Parker and Tom Fawkner have quickly become key players for the Cubs.
The Braves never gave up and with a couple of key players away it was the senior players in Ian Arguilles, Kia Finch, Naomi Rosas and Ethan Grahek who tried to lift the Braves.
William Irlam did a good job on the mound for the Cubs before Jed Dawson came on to close out the game.
Ethan and Kia Finch did a good job pitching for the Braves, containing the strong Cubs batting line up.
Jesse Finch had his best game for the Braves and Naomi Rosas had a good solid game. Cubs winning the game 14 runs to 11.
Best for Cubs: Scout Parker, William Irlam and Jed Dawson.
Best for Braves: Jesse Finch, Naomi Rosas and Kia Finch
Next week will see the first game at 9am between the Cubs and the Angels, while the second game at 11am will see the Braves up against the Dodgers.
Note: The first named team has first base dugout and field first.
Also a Katherine Junior Baseball representative side will be put together in the coming weeks to take on teams from Alice Springs and Darwin in a NT baseball carnival to be held in Katherine in the middle of July.
So players need to play their best baseball over the coming weeks to push their case for selection.
Also next Saturday afternoon there will be the first few working bees after the last juniors game as we need to start preparing the ground ready for the Championships.
Any parent that can lend a hand for an hour or two would be greatly appreciated.
Just let me know Saturday morning if you can help.
Remember many hands make light work.
