Woman injured in horror crash

A LOCAL woman was seriously injured in a horror crash on Wednesday morning when the car she was travelling in hit a tree 20km south of Katherine.

The 39-year-old woman was travelling north-bound on the Stuart Highway when she lost control over her vehicle at 8.30am.

Seven Katherine Fire and Rescue Service members spent over an hour trying to free the trapped woman from the wreckage.

Acting Station Officer Garry Branson said due to the complexity of the crash and the nature of the injuries it took fire crews “quite some time” to cut the woman free.
