Telstra tower causes controversy

THE new Telstra communications tower built on Katherine’s Second Street may just have been completed, but residents are voicing concerns at the revelation that the tower is 3G, rather than the newest 4G technology.

Former alderman Toni Tapp Coutts said she had her reservations when the tower was first under discussion at Katherine Town Council meetings.

“I was just against it on the basis of its location. I voted against it, and I asked that my vote be noted,” she said.

“It’s a big, ugly structure which has now taken over what should be in the future a youth centre, or club, and that it’s 3G, that’s even worse.”
