Mine could become 'biggest of its kind'

A WORLD-class copper and gold mine is on the brink of being literally unearthed in the Katherine region near Limbunya, where company Proto Resources and Investments has completed detailed ground surveying at its Lindeman’s Bore project.

“This could potentially be one of the biggest mines (of its kind) in the world,” Proto Resources managing director Andrew Mortimer said.

Mr Mortimer’s company recently completed ground-based magnetic and gravity surveys at Lindeman’s Bore, the results of which will clarify the quality and quantity of mineralisation and provide a clearer picture of the future of the mine.

“We decided to conduct a ground electromagnetic survey to verify what was first surveyed as an airborne target,” Mr Mortimer said.

And the preliminary results of the survey could potentially have a significant impact on Katherine’s economy.

“If it is good news, we expect there would be substantial employment to come.
