The club boats the highest number of registered players per capita in the country and has been nominated for the prestigious NRL One Community Grassroots Club of the Year awad.
The award recognises a club that has fostered participation and enjoyment of rugby league at all levels, has shown innovation in administration and has become an integral part of its community.
President Trent Biddle said he believed it was the club’s social atmosphere and pride in club colours that made it so popular.
“We’ve got about 230 juniors,” he said.
“When a kid gets into their colours, that’s where they want to stay.
“With rugby league [in Katherine] the parents seem to be very involved with their children.
“Everyone comes along and gets into it.”
Mr Biddle said holding games on Friday evenings created a “social environment” and freed up Saturday mornings for families, adding that the nomination was a salute to the club’s volunteers.
“It’s recognition for those people who voluteen their time to make it happen every year,” he said.
Annette Schefe and Michelle DaForno will represent the club at the awards night in Sydney.
