In a world that moves at a frantic pace, it is an ambition that has been made easier through his choice of vehicle for a cross-country journey that is aiming to raise much-needed funds for Angel Flight.
“It’s a good way to see Australia,” he laughed.
“Actually, it’s the only way to see Australia.”
Mr Kroll and seven other adventurers are travelling across the country in Model T Fords, one of the most iconic vehicles ever produced, and stopped in Katherine last week before continuing their journey into Western Australia.
Lindsay Bell, who is driving his beloved 1923 model on the fundraising campaign, said he believed the head-turning vehicles created an opportunity to engage both residents and tourists, and tell them about Angel Flight.
“It stops people,” he explained.
“People pull up and take notice.
“The trip was suggested by Merv and I agreed, and then said that we might as well do it for a definite reason.
“I approached Angel Flight and they said they’d sign us up as a fundraiser.”
After starting out in Brisbane, Mr Bell and Mr Kroll said they expected to roll into Perth on November 30,
Despite averaging only 50kmh on some of the fastest highways in Australia, Mr Bell said they had not encountered any issues on the black top.
“Everyone has been really good and slowed down for us,” he said.
