The team has secured a homeground advantage for the round one clash and Bilske said he believed the players would make the most of the opportunity to kick off their campaign at Nitmiluk Oval.
“We’ve got a good group of staff and coaches, and the team’s pretty fit,” he explained.
“We’re really concentrating on all-round development and we’re not after any stars; we’re about the culture and the team.
“Everyone has their roles.”
Bilske said about 35 players formed the core squad, adding they had to adhere to strict guidelines on education and training in order to don the team colours.
“There are some pretty non-negotiable stuff with them and school,” he said.
Bilske urged the community to get to Nitmiluk Oval to support the Hawks’ season opener.
The first bounce is at 2pm.
Entry costs $5 and fans under 16 will score an afternoon of action for free.
