With the temperature soaring at Nitmiluk Oval, the local outfit rallied to dominate play and post a 15.10 (100) to 3.5 (23) victory in front of a passionate fan base.
It was an entertaining match that included some tremendous goals and high-flying marks, as well as some brutal contact by both teams. The game was best summed up by the fact that the Hawks were able to get more numbers to the fall of the ball than their opposition and dominated the clearances and contested possession, in addition to not allowing the visitors to score a goal after half-time.
Fullback Alec Albert led the way in defence for the Hawks.
Jordan Gardner was unstoppable near the big sticks and led the scoring with five majors, with Lajamanu duo Corey Raymond and Micky Sampson, and Ngukurr’s Lyndon Gumbula kicking two goals each.
James Hersey, Kurtly Silver, Daniel Turner and Lucas Farrell also got the scoreboard attendant’s attention with six-pointers.
On Sunday, the Hawks will head up the Stuart Highway to tackle the Darwin Buffaloes at TIO Stadium at 12.30pm.
