On Thursday morning, police and paramedics responded to a residence in Katherine East after a 36-year-old occupant made "serious threats", according to Commander Bruce Porter.
Police closed off Holtze Crescent during the incident.
"The police response involved the immediate area being cordoned off and evacuated for the safety of residents within proximity of the incident location," Cdr Porter told the Katherine Times.
"After negotiation with the male involved, the matter was resolved peacefully and the male taken into custody after handing himself over to police.
"There were no other persons involved in the incident".
The male was charged with making a threat to kill a person and using a carriage service to make a threat to kill a person.
"Police would like to thank the Katherine community for their assistance and patience during this incident," Cdr Porter said.
The man was remanded in custody and will appear in Katherine Magistrate's Court today.
