The Mataranka School Council is attempting to relaunch the iconic festival in 2015 after it was cancelled this year, with a call going out for businesses to dig deep to show their support.
Event co-ordinator Leah Niehus said that, while the festival would be held from May 8 until 10 “no matter what”, whether or not the chutes flew open at the rodeo hinged on public support.
“I’ve been working on it for the last 12 weeks and am currently applying for a grant for the festival,” she said.
“If we don’t get the grant, it will still go ahead but the more community support we can get, the better event it is going to be.
“The rodeo, on the other hand, needs sponsors to go ahead.”
In total, 12 thrilling events have been scheduled for the May 9 rodeo, with naming rights still up for grabs for two of the showstoppers: the open bull ride and the bareback bronc ride.
“It’s really big for people from the stations and tourists get to see what life’s like in Mataranka,” Ms Niehus explained.
