Held in the Queensland town and rodeo hub of Warwick on December 20, Ms MacQueen has her sights set on winning the crown so she can continue promoting and developing the sport of rodeo in the Northern Territory.
She is hoping to raise the $2000 entrance fee required in order to enter the competition by December 17, with any additional funds going to the Cancer Council NT.
“I believe that rodeo in the NT is fading fast and needs all the help it can get,” she said.
“Smaller towns in the Katherine region, such as Mataranka and Pine Creek, that once ran a great rodeo no longer run, due to lack of funding or committee support.”
The Katherine Rope and Barrel Horse Club, of which Ms MacQueen is an active member, has run two pro rodeos in town in the past two years.
“The events bring over 100 interstate competitors to our town and are attended by over 1000 local community members,” she explained.
“We have had great feedback from the community and hope each event can continue to be more successful than the last.”
