Thanks to the generous support of the community and $48,000 raised at last year’s Triple-0 Ball, the Cancer Council NT has welcomed a new team member to its Katherine office.
Previously with the Katherine West Health Board, Selina Kiernan is now on hand as a part-time cancer support officer.
“Selina’s position is entirely Territory fundraised, and that shows the commitment of the Katherine community to get face-to-face support services,” Cancer Council NT chief executive officer Kathy Sadler said.
Katherine Cancer Working Group chair Toni Tapp-Coutts said that local support services had skyrocketed from nil to $1.5 million in less than 24 months.
“To have the Cancer Council set up an office with a support person, as well as a chemo unit opening in April at the hospital, is a great help for people undergoing cancer treatment who can now easily access information and support,” Ms Tapp-Coutts said.
