Four official events have been planned for January 26, with celebrations of everything Australian commencing with a breakfast at the Katherine Club.
From there, revellers will converge on the Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts and Culture Centre for Katherine Town Council’s annual event, which will including 10 residents taking their citizenship oaths in front of what is tipped to be a full house.
Mayor Fay Miller encouraged people to engage with fellow Katherinites on the day.
“Hopefully, there will be people supporting the activities down there,” she said.
“It’s a good way for us to renew our allegiance to Australia and our loyalty to Australia.”
After the official proceedings conclude, the fun moves to the Katherine Sports and Recreation Club for an afternoon acting president Terry Ross said “every man and his dog” would be attending.
Australia Day festivities will wrap up with a quiz night at the Katherine Country Club.

RESIDENTS will be offered a mouthwatering $5 breakfast while they look over speedway and vintage cars, and emergency services vehicles. For the kids, there will be a petting zoo and face painting. Katherine FM will broadcast live from the event.

KATHERINE Town Council’s traditional event will be hosted at a new venue in 2015, with a flag raising and the announcement of local government Australia Day award winners set to be highlights. GYRACC director Cath Bowdler and Australia Day ambassador Steve Widders will make presentations, and 11 Katherine residents will take part in a citizenship ceremony.

IF YOU think your knowledge on everything Australiana is up to scratch, head to the Katherine Country Club for a 40-question quiz that will test even the most seasoned trivia buffs. Teams will comprise of six people and the $25 per person entry fee includes a barbecue dinner.
What's on across the region
KATHERINE residents will not be the only ones celebrating what it means to be Australian on January 26.
Victoria Daly Regional Council and Roper Gulf Regional Council are co-ordinating a range of fun-filled events in towns and communities, with most offering a hearty barbucue while allowing participants to show off their sporting prowess.
Pine Creek
THE day will begin with a flag raising, singing of the national anthem and award ceremony at midday, before residents kick up their heels with a barbecue, children’s activities and an Australia Day quiz, with events scheduled to conclude at 5pm.
Mataranka
THE town’s sportsground will come alive from 8.30am until 2pm with breakfast, a flag raising and a rendition of Advance Australia Fair, before a quiz, games and other family-friendly round out the event.
Borroloola
AN AFTERNOON of fun will be held at the pool from midday.
Jilkminggan
THE community will participate in a range of sports before tucking in to a sumptuous barbecue.
Bulman
FROM 11am at the town’s sports and recreation hall, residents are being encouraged to take part in a certificate presentation, music and a hearty lunch before watching Bulman and Weemol clash in an Australia rules thriller on Australia Day.
Numbulwar
AT LOT 93, a community barbecue and flag raising will be held from 11.30am, with residents dusting off their disco shoes in the evening.
Ngukurr
IN NGUKURR, all the action will be at the town’s sporting oval and pool from midday until 4.30pm, with a barbecue and range of sports on offer.
