THE commitment shown by Commander Bruce Porter to both the Katherine community and policing in the Top End has been officially recognised after the 25-year Northern Territory Police veteran received the Australian Police Medal on January 26.

Cmdr Porter has extensive experience in all operational facets of policing throughout the NT but he said the prestigious award reflected a team effort.
“It was a shock,” he told the Katherine Times.
“It’s not really my award because you can’t achieve anything without working together.
“Every police officer works tirelessly in what is a pretty thankless job.
“It wouldn’t mean anything without those other police officers.”
