Robert de Castella, who won back-to-back marathon gold medals at the 1982 and 1986 Commonwealth Games, will arrive in Katherine on Tuesday for the graduation of Indigenous Marathon Project team member Allirra Braun.
Braun was a part of the project in 2014 and topped off her achievement by completing the iconic New York City Marathon in November.
The Katherine-based runner said she was excited that the dual gold medallist would be at her IMP graduation and encouraged residents to attend and meet de Castella.
“As an Aboriginal person, I feel like my achievements reflect my community, and I am grateful for all of the support Katherine has given me,” she said.
“The invitation is open to anyone who followed my journey, especially those who kept an eye on me running up and down the highway every day.
The graduation will be held in the conference room of the Government Centre on First Street at midday.
