ROUND five of Katherine Softball Association began with a bang on July 4 in the women’s division when the undefeated Rockers locked horns with the in-form Rebels.

Rockers started on the bat and wasted no time by bringing in five runs and limiting Rebels’ score only three.
In the second innings, Rockers stepped it up even more running and turned in another seven runs, with safe hits all round and three-base hits to Francine Delacoeur and Hayley Ross.
Rebels continued to fight back but were limited to five runs.
In the third and final innings, Rocker unleashed a demonstration of why they are dominating the 2015 seasonal as the team delivered another 10 runs, including a second three-base hit to Ross.
Rebels had the last bat of the game but Rockers held on to secure a resounding 22-8 victory.
Best on ground for Rockers were Ross and Delacoeur, with Kaillee Brown and Theresa Anderson shining for Rebels.
In the second women’s clash of the round, the Kalano Bombers lined up against Nek Minnit.
The Bombers started strongly and scored consistently in each innings, in addition to keeping their opponent scoreless for the first three innings through the safe outfield glove of Kathleen Andrews.
Nek Minnit fought back in the fourth innings by scoring eight runs, including a big two-base hit to Jade Brown.
The team had the last bat of the game and went straight to work in keeping the scoreboard ticking over to secure an impressive win.
Best on ground for Nek Minnit were Caitlyn Girdler and Jade Brown, while Andrews and Leoni Ross were in red-hot form for the Bombers.
After five exhilarating rounds, Rockers remain undefeated on top of the ladder with 10 points, while Nek Minnit and Rebels (four points) sharing second place.
The Bombers trail in third place with just two points.
The only mixed game to be played in round five was between Wanderers and Rebels.
Wanderers got on the bat first and scored six runs, while Rebels could only manage one run before being kept scoreless for in the second and third innings.
Wanderers scored a further two runs and were then kept scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Rebels had to do some catching up and went to work, but Wanderers held on to take the game by one run in an 8-7 result.
Braydon Manfong and Anne Manfong were the best for Wanderers, while Kerry Scretton and Rodrick Pineda were standouts for Rebels.
After five rounds, Rebels (eight points) lead the mixed competition, with Wanderers (six points) within a sniff of top place on the ladder.
Bad Company is holding onto third position with two points, while the luckless Nek Minnit is yet to record a win in 2015.
