The 50th Katherine Show was officially opened by Fax Cox on Friday afternoon before she was joined by Chief Minister Adam Giles to cut a special cake commemorating the milestone event.
Mrs Cox has attended all but one of the town’s shows since 1965 and the crowd was captivated as she explained how the event had changed and what it meant to her.
More than 17,000 people passed through the showground gates during the event and Katherine and District Show Society show officer Courtney Golding said it had been a “fitting testament to the work of all the volunteers and committees over the last 50 years, and a true celebration of a rural show”.
