Peter Gazey is packing his bags for his fourth bash and, in the process, has raised about $10,000 for some of the Top End’s most needy children.
Drivers will fire up their vintage rides at the Mary River Wilderness Park on Saturday and Mr Gazey said he was thrilled to be taking part in the event once again.
“I can’t wait,” he told the Katherine Times on July 27.
“As much as a lot of the people look and dress differently, they are all there to raise money for Variety.
“They all take that very seriously.”
The Katherinite will pilot car 0850 in the bash and said the 1979 Mercedes Benz 230 was ready to roll.
“All that’s left in the car now is the wheel alignment to be done,” he explained.
“A slight mechanical problem was found and solved on Sunday evening.
“Now it’s the dress-up gear to be packed and it’ll be a small team of two [in the car] this year, due to other people’s commitments.”
The bash will arrive in Katherine on August 6 and, following a series of school visits, the drivers will showcase their rides during a lunch at the Katherine Club.
