Broken promises
THREE or more years ago before the last Territory election, the Country Liberal Party promised that, if elected, the town of Katherine would benefit in many ways.

The CLP promised that St John Ambulance NT would be moved out of the Katherine River flood zone.
Another promise was that the Katherine Hospital would also be moved out of the flood zone.
Nothing happened there.
Another of the promises to the Katherine electorate made by Willem Westra Van Holthe was returning the police call centre to the Katherine police station.
Nothing happening there.
My personal experience with the Darwin police call centre leaves a lot to be desired, including messages not put through to the Katherine police – I could write a book.
When will we see the promise to return the police call centre to the Katherine?

Fantastic flowers
I WOULD like to give a huge thumbs up to Robyn Jackson and Terrace Flowers.
Robyn volunteered her time, expertise, flowers and bits and pieces to teach the fine art of floral arrangement at our recent Flower Power activity.
Well done and many, many thanks from the Katherine Red Cross team.

Support for CLP critic
KIT Jolley (Katherine Times letters to the editor, August 19) believes Bruce Francais “does not represent the views of the majority of Katherinites”.
Furthermore, she is tired of “negative drivel” in his commentaries.
Maybe Kit could specify how she came to collate the views of this majority and what they are?
Bruce has lived and had businesses in Katherine region for 40-plus years, and I have never met someone who is more passionate and driven on issues of the environment and governance that concern Katherine residents.
These traits are the most valued elements of a civic-minded society and Bruce should be lauded for it.
Especially where apathy towards civic duties in Katherine is acknowledged, even among Bruce’s opponents.
For these reasons, I like many others are extremely grateful for an elder statesman such as Bruce, who is a living historian of Katherine and who makes a diligent effort to be engaged on issues that concern many Katherine residents.
On this basis, I believe an apology is due to Bruce, especially for the drivel comment.

WELL done Bruce.
Your shafts of literary light have finally provoked a couple of your regular readers – and no doubt closet admirers – to emerge from their CLaPtraps to defend the Territory government's somewhat porkish propensities.
The pending Territory election will certainly provide a great incentive for the Giles mob to fuel the community cash flow but, sadly for the CLaPpers, it will not prevent the likely extinction of the CLP as a political force in the Northern Territory.

Rate outrage
HAS anyone else bothered to read the propaganda that came with their Katherine Town Council rates notice?
After a 9 per cent jump, I reckon some money should go towards graphic design.

Healthcare thanks
I GIVE grateful thanks to Stacey and Ashley, and all the doctors and medical staff who looked after me during my stays in the Katherine and Darwin hospitals.
I could not have asked for better care or attention.
