Miss Borlini, who teaches Year 5/6, has been named the AFLNT School Ambassador of the Year for 2015 for co-ordinating the Future Leaders Football School in Katherine and said her involvement in the program was born from spending weekends as a child on football fields around Perth.
“I come from a big football family,” she explained.
The program uses the sport to develop leadership and educational outcomes, in addition to introducing students from Transition to Year 12 to Australian rules through weekly games and skills sessions.
Miss Borlini said the program acted as a catalyst for increased attendance.
“Kids definitely look forward to coming to school on days they’ve got a game on,” she said.
“It’s been really successful.”
