He was asked to lace up his boots for University Azzurri Football Club on the back of his standout performance for his home team during October’s Katherine Football Cup.
“As a result of the tournament, we identified local talent Matthew Jackson as a standout player,” University Azzurri coach John Kassaras told the Katherine Times.
“We’ve invited him to tour with University Azzurri Football Club as part of the team competing in the Singa Cup in Singapore in November.”

Jackson said the invitation took him by surprise.
“While I was sitting down, they approached me and asked if I was interesting in playing in Singapore, so I said yeah,” he said as he prepared to head off with his new teammates.

He said he had been playing soccer for “as long as I can remember” and, with the support of his parents, has been able to pursue his love of the sport.
