In announcing the new process, Chief Minister Adam Giles said he believed it struck a balance between the rights of pastoralists and resources companies.
“From a handshake to a fully-documented process, this process recognises that individual property managers, mining and petroleum companies need more than a one-size-fits-all approach,” he said.
Under the new process, resources companies will be required to lodge a Mining Management Plan or Petroleum Environment Plan that outlines the exploration.
If mutual consent between the company and landholder cannot be reached in 60 days, a panel will panel will arbitrate between the parties.
