Earth moving machinery was a common sight at the Big Rivers BMX Club facility on Chambers Drive in the lead-up to the festive season, but president Julie Bennett said early wet season rain had forced changes to the construction schedule.
“We got to the point where the early wet set in and it became difficult to get in there,” she said.
“There’s a really good rough track built and there needs to be final shaping, and we’d like to get the experts in from down south to do that.”
The club is hoping to have the track finished and ready for use by April, ahead of the planned come and try day the following month.
We absolutely think the new track will attrack new riders.

Mrs Bennett said the club’s new committee was excited about how the track transformation was taking shape, adding that it was expected to give more Katherinites cause to don a helmet and find out what BMX could offer as a sport.
“We absolutely think the new track will attract new riders,” she told the Katherine Times.
“We have a committee and we’re working towards inviting membership once we have a track.”
