In a move aimed at fostering the relationship between RAAF Base Tindal and the community, policy changes have been made so personnel can wear their dress uniform, general purpose uniform or flying suit in public when on unofficial business.

Base Senior Australian Defence Force Officer Wing Commander Andrew Tatnell said he believed a more visible presence would help solidify the important role Air Force personnel played in Katherine.

“The connection between the Air Force base and the Katherine community is very important,” he explained.

“I am hopeful the community will welcome uniformed personnel.”

“Personnel on the base are proud to be seen in town in uniform.

“I think it is important that members feel comfortable being seen in uniform and, likewise, it is good for the people of Katherine to see their military personnel interacting with the community.”
