After winning the Darwin heat, Mr Dixon and another competitor travelled to Melbourne to vie for the secondary school comedy development program’s national crown.
Mr Dixon said he was encouraged to enter after participating in fortnightly drama workshops.
Corrugated Iron Youth Arts manager Adam Drake visits Katherine fortnightly to engage students with drama and circus classes.
Travelling to Melbourne was a culture shock for Mr Dixon, who admitted he had never seen so many people wearing suits and ties.
The Katherine High School student was the youngest of the 12 to perform in Melbourne.
“Chance was mobbed after the performance by the media,” Mr Drake said.
“Chance also is now set to be mentored by some of the best comics in Australia, including Kevin Kropinyeri.
“Chance was superb and his confidence has grown so much, and we have to remember that he has only done two routines in his life.”
