Superintendent Lauren Hill said members from Northern Traffic Operations pulled the offenders over within 90 minutes of one other.
“In the first incident, a 24-year-old female tested positive for cannabis while driving outbound on the Victoria Highway about 10pm,” she said.
“Police found three unrestrained children in the back seat of the vehicle, aged six weeks, 20 months and 10 months.”
A subsequent search of the vehicle located a quantity of cannabis.
The woman was fined $1940.10 for the unrestrained children, failing to produce a licence on request and possession of cannabis.
A 22-year-old female passenger was also fined $300.10 for possession of cannabis.
In a second incident at 11.30pm, police stopped a vehicle travelling inbound on the Stuart Highway, north of Katherine.
“A 38-year-old male driver tested positive for methamphetamine and was arrested for a blood test,” Superintendent Hill said.
The man was disqualified from driving for 24 hours and served with a notice to appear in court.
“If you drink or use drugs, think twice before getting behind the wheel,” Superintendent Hill said.
“Police will continue to randomly test drivers for drugs and alcohol, and it’s not a matter of if, but when, you’ll get caught.”
