I AM writing in regard to the Hansard report of the inquiry into unconventional gas mining released on April 12.

On page 58, a witness gives evidence that “about three years ago, the then-minister for mines told me and a group of other ministers … that the terms of reference for the Hawke report had been viewed by a gas company prior to Dr Hawke receiving the terms of reference”.
Surely there should be an inquiry into this matter.

Legislation deferment benefits sick Katherinites
CITIZENS who were concerned at the prospect of paying pathology fees after July 1 can now breathe a sigh of relief after the federal government announced that proposed legislation to cease bulk-billing was to be deferred.
Over half a million Australians signed a petition during the Don't Kill Bulk-Bill campaign conducted by private pathology clinics and the government took notice.
While there is no doubt that an imminent election contributed to the deferment, this was a matter of people power working.

Skywalk suspicion
I WOULD like either Adam Giles or Willem Westra van Holthe to tell us how they think spending $10 million on a glass walkway in Nitmiluk National Park is a wise use of limited monetary resources.
Like me, many seem to have heard about the plan for the first time when they picked up last week’s Katherine Times, so could Mr Giles or Mr Westra van Holthe please explain what consultation was undertaken to gauge community support?
I suggest that apart from apparent discussions with Jawoyn traditional owners, the rest of the community was left totally in the dark, a situation which is unacceptable when so much money is involved.
By the sound of it, some of the people who keep our beautiful national parks running did not even know that the "Territory’s own Grand Canyon” was about to be built.
Will Mr Giles or Mr Westra van Holthe show the community what fact-based research went into the presumption that the development would “be a major drawcard in itself”?

Chief’s perspective the pits
DOES Adam Giles hold a grudge against body hair, or is he simply a chauvinist?
His latest attack towards Northern Territory anti-frackers refers to a bunch of crazies from New South Wales with hairy armpits.
It appears Mr Giles is seriously behind the feminine times, and perhaps in his archaic world has not realised many women began embracing their body hair about the same time bras were burnt.
Here we have the Country Liberal Party madly throwing cash in a desperate bid to grab votes, and the Chief Minister decides to do his best to insult the female population.
It is a woman's own individual right to choose whether she shaves or not.
Women's body hair should not be used to try and degrade anyone or any group – the Chief Minister should know better.
And for the record, my pits are fur free, and my birth certificate says Darwin.
Why doesn't Mr Giles show us his if he is so concerned where people are from?
