The 24th National Model A Ford Meet will be held in the Northern Territory for the first this time week and owners displayed their historic rides during a family fun day at the Katherine Museum.
More than 90 vintage Model A Fords made the journey from across Australia to participate in the biennial event.
Mark Border bought his car in December and worked tirelessly for six months to restore it in time for the meet.
“I like working on car, but more specifically, I like the journey here,” he said.
“The journey here is probably more than the destination.
“It’s great, the cars are like magnets; every time we pull up to a service station, people talk to you and we meet a lot of people.”
The Katherine Motor Vehicle Enthusiasts Club helped support the event and member Mook Crothers and treasurer Tony Millikan said they had been impressed by the number of people who came out on the day.
“Some of our members have Model As and that’s sort of how we got involved in supporting the day,” Mr Crothers said.
“When you see how many cars are parked up, it’s a very good turnout,” Mr Millikan added.
Mr Border attended the last event in Busselton two years ago but said this had been the first year he had brought his own vehicle.
He explained that the Stuart Highway trek had been an experience to remember.
“We’ve had a hell of an adventure, every day has been fantastic,” he said.
“We both turned 60 this year, and it just goes to show you can still have a great adventure at our age.
“It’s the best thing we’ve done, it’s fantastic.”
West Australians Beverley Biggs and her husband, Wes Hartley, did not have to travel far for the last meet in 2014, but made up for it with the drive to Katherine.
The couple played music from the same era as their 1928 Model A Sports Coupe to enhance the experience for attendees.
