The hoops sit on the side of the pool and allow swimmers to slam dunk and shoot baskets from the shallow water.
Katherine Aquatic Centre pool manager Dennis Watson said he applied for a grant through the Katherine Regional Community Bank to purchase the specialised equipment.
“It’s a big hit with the kids already,” Mr Watson said.
“We were hoping to have them here a long time ago; they took six months to get here.”
Branch manager Subha Pathirage said the bank provided a range of community grants every year, with the aim of incorporating at least one local sporting program.
“It’s just the whole concept of us being a community bank, and part of our income goes back into the community in projects like this,” she said.
Mr Watson said the pool would have needed to do more fundraising to provide additional services for patrons were it not for bank’s support.
“Pools are traditionally always short of funds for anything,” he said.
“So, any help we get [is appreciated].
“This is something that is going to be great for the kids and of great community benefit.”
