KINTORE Street School’s annual crocodile race and family fun day was still a success on May 28, despite the 1000 plastic racers being unable to enter the Katherine River because of a lurking saltwater reptile.

Punters were still picking which pint-sized crocodile to back right up until the draw at 11am.
It is estimated that more than $10,000 was raised as part of the unconventional fundraising race.
“It was a really fantastic day,” principal Marg Chamberlain said.
“It was a shame we couldn’t get the crocs into the river.
“But we can’t be complacent about croc safety.”
The first competitor “over the finish line” was number 439, which was backed by Caroline Green.
Each 100th place after received a prize, and the last crocodile over the line received free entry to next year’s race.
“We’ll be back in the river next year,” Ms Chamberlain said.
