New South Wales rider Alex Cameron will be in town for the club’s come and try day, and will be the guest of honour for the opening before hosting coaching sessions the following morning.
Club president Julie Bennett said Cameron’s presence indicated how anticipated the opening of the track was, and urged Katherinites keen to either take up or get back into the sport to attend from 2pm on Saturday.
“The come and try day is an event for all levels of experience,” she explained.
“From new people just wanting to try it out, up to Australian champions.
“It will be worth it to just come and watch, but why not have a go while at the track?”
Ms Bennett added that BMX was a sport that allowed competitors to “increase both fitness and self-esteem”.
“BMX is a sport for all ages, from when littlies can first get on a bike, up until the age when they can no longer ride,” she said.
Registrations and licence applications can be done on the day, but those already enamoured by the sport can secure their licence or volunteer registration online at the BMX Australia website.
“Bring your BMX or mountain bike, wear a long-sleeved shirt and pants, and bring a helmet and gloves, if you have them,” Ms Bennett said.
