With help from the Northern Territory government, Roper Gulf Regional Council has installed the boxing ring for local youth.
Council staff made the most of a $10,000 Community Benefit Fund grant to purchase the boxing ring as well as a pool table, television, gaming console and computer tablets, to ensure the sport and recreation hall has become the place for youth to congregate in Numbulwar.
Roper Gulf Regional Council’s Community Safety, Youth, Sport and Recreation co-ordinator Sam Nowicki said the provision of engaging activities for youth was always high on the agenda for communities.
He said the boxing ring had provided a safe and unique way for Numbulwar’s youngest residents to be physically active and build their confidence.
“The bouncy boxing ring has received a good workout already, with the youth enjoying some fun boxing matches,” Mr Nowicki said.
“It’s a really great workout, with the boxers having lots of fun in a safe environment.
“There has been lots of laughing, cheering and fun had with the new gear.”
Numbulwar is located almost 500kms east of Katherine and has a population of 687 people.
