Information that Katherine had been included in this year’s competition was only released this week.

The second season of the Northern Territory’s Million Dollar Fish competition kicked off on Saturday, with 101 prize tagged barramundi released in Top End waters.

NT Tourism Minister Lauren Moss said the competition was the richest of its kind in Australia.

“Forget about the ‘one that got away’, you can have better luck in the NT,” Ms Moss said.

“This year we have a million dollar barra up for grabs, plus 100 barramundi worth $10,000 compared with 75 last year, as well as sponsor prizes worth $96,000.

“We’re hoping the lure of an increased prize pool will reel in even more visitors to the NT.

“About 40,000 interstate visitors come to the Top End for fishing every year but we want to encourage even more people to stay, play and fish.

“More than 22,000 people have already registered for the competition with anglers locally, interstate and overseas all trying to hook the big one from this weekend.
