Some members of the Katherine Athletic Centre contingent have been planning and training for two years to compete in these games.
More than 4000 athletes and supporters from around the world will take part in the world masters from October 26 to November 6.
Rod Gregg will be competing in sprint and hurdles events including 100, 200 and 400 metres.
“If people have not been in actual training for this then it has been top of their mind for two years,” Mr Gregg said.
“It all became a lot more real to us when our uniforms arrived.”

Mr Gregg said many people believed a seniors event meant the competitors were old.
“I’m probably the oldest one from here going, and I’m in my 50s, there are age restrictions on events, it depends on the events.”
Among the Katherine athletes are runners, jumpers and throwers.
Nicole will be competing in the shotput, hammer, weight throw, discus, throws pentathlon and 5km walk.
Kelly is competing in the high jump, javelin and shotput but also the heptathlon.Louise and Beth are also competing in many of the throws events.
Julie, Rod and Chris will be lining up on the running track.
“The world masters has been here in Australia a couple of times so I suppose you really want to take advantage when they are relatively close,” Mr Gregg said.
“We have all been working pretty hard so we hope to give a good account of ourselves.”
Mr Gregg said the world masters at Perth should not be confused with the recent masters games held at Alice Springs.
“They are completely different,” he said. He said the different “masters” events catered for different events and different fitness levels.
