The teachers and principals might not wear capes, and they might not have superpowers, but in the eyes of the department and their students, their dedication, support and passion is well worthy of recognition.
In the eyes of former award winner and 2016 nominee Marg Chamberlain, principal of Kintore Street School, the day is an opportunity to teachers to celebrate together their achievements as a whole.
“We’re not tough or special; we do what we need to do for kids who need it,” she said.
“It’s wonderful to be recognised for your work, but your school is only as good as its staff; it’s a whole school effort and I couldn’t be prouder of our kids and the staff.”
Fellow nominees include Casuarina Street Primary School’s Renez Lammon and Kintore Street School’s Jan Thompson for NT Indigenous Educator of the Year and NT Teacher of the Year in a Special School respectively.
Katherine’s award ceremony will be held this Friday, October 28 at the Katherine Golf and Country Club.
The awards will be presented by Sandra Nelson, Member for Katherine.
