Acting Supt Meghan Funnell said at 5pm police were alerted to a woman being assaulted by a man at 50 Cent Park on Katherine Terrace.
“As a result of the assault the female suffered facial injuries,” she said.
“A male was arrested at the scene.
“Police are calling for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.”
